Postal Box-Checking and A Plensa Radio Story

This morning I went to the Post Office downtown.

Supposedly, today is the busiest day of the year. There was one person working, with a line out the door and another line at the automated station. Every time I go to the Post Office to send a package, someone - usually the Postal worker there, says "Well, if you'd only packaged it [add here: in a flat rate box, as a shoe, in a plain package, in other packaging] you would have saved yourself some real money."  Every year, I have done something invariably wrong despite my frequent checking on the website, my trying to calculate the assumed weight and dimension crossed with the distance and delivery goal, and ... today was no exception.  Even though I was in a nice chatty line for the automated process, the woman two people back from me, who was wearing not one but two seasonal hats (one of a snowman, and a hat on top of the snowman as if she'd decorated the head sitting on top of her head), could not resist. She let me know that if I'da a just packed that small package in a small flat rate box, I'da saved four bucks. THANK YOU ma'am, that allows me to check that off my list. Duly chastised at the PO, Check! Let it be Christmas!
