The board of the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewer District is made up of politicians, a good number of them serving on other boards.
Obviously the members of MMSD board do not know how to handle the raw sewage backups into people basements in summer any more than the boards of trustees in Shorewood, Whitefish Bay and any of the other communities, otherwise they would let us know.
They haven't done much about the situation for decades. They believe that it's a summertime phenomenon. If they believe that, for all practicalities probably it is a summertime thing.
Now, they've discovered the “sump pump,” believing that that, new laterals and disconnecting water flow from foundations into the system sounds like a plausible action. It got plenty of newsprint.
Perhaps total disconnection is the real answer. How about that, total disconnection and individual treatment plants with sump pumps of course and water to go where? Leonardo would know best.
At any rate, we can expect sewer backups for the next 25 years, until 2035, as has been predicted. Most of us won't be here and so we won't know whether the problem will be solved by that time.
Will Lenny be here to remember the promise? How will he be able to ask the questions?.
