The performance at Shorewood's Village Hall over the past 7 months, giving us 5 months, more or less until the next flood, indicates that sewer backups are not far away—they are a-coming, a- coming, a-coming.

FROM BLOB TO DOG

Shorewood, winter, walking

My broken foot in 2001 caused me to become a walker. I couldn’t bike with a cam-boot on, but I could walk, and walk. Which I did, and still do.

When I walk rather than bike, I have a more intimate relationship with my surroundings. I notice more, have more time to think about what I see, to run into friends, to develop a pedestrian social life! Many of my blogs are written in my head as I walk.

A Sad Day - Canceled Journal Subscription today

Canceling Journal Subscription, ShorewoodNOW

ON February 18, 2011 I Contacted the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Editorial Board on Facebook. I, Jenny, posted:
"In your info, you say this: 'We are independent, beholden to no special interest or political party.' Yet the Journal/Sentinel endorsed Scott Walker, and your coverage of the situation is now just plain embarrassing on an international level. What are your plans going forward on coverage, and do you intend to enforce the tenet of your organization: "We are independent, beholden to no special interest or political party."

This is the unedited Response in its entirety from the MKE Journal Editorial Board received 2/19/2011:

"I would point out that we also recommended Russ Feingold and Steve Kagen in the last election. And while we support Walker's plan to compel state public employees to pay more for benefits, we have not and do not support some of his other ideas. Having said that, we think Walker was right to get tough with the unions. For more than a decade, through Republican and Democratic governors alike, the state has taken the easy way out - essentially not paying its bills. That simply has to stop. There are no more free rides for anyone. It's unfortunate - and painful. But the state has to get its budget in order. We don't buy the idea that it has be done by busting the unions, though. Thanks for your comments"

Based on continued coverage that I now have on authority is more of an op-ed blog type of journalism, I am canceling my subscription. I do not need to pay for a blog, which is what it has become.  I will stay with ShorewoodNOW as long as they'll have me, because it's clearly information submitted by people in the community, and does not purport to be a hard news feed.
