Few professors get to see, years later, how their students turned out. Adolph Rosenblatt is fortunate: in a few days two different exhibitions of work by his former students will be up at the same time. In fact one is already up, at UWM's Inova Arts Center Gallery: Adolph Rosenblatt and three of his students.
Hundreds of other students, 33 years worth, aren't in the UWM show, and I wondered what they're doing. Many keep in touch with Adolph, including me (I married him). So about a month ago I had an idea for a show in Rosenblatt Gallery: ROSENBLATT'S FORMER STUDENTS, with two artworks by each artist. For the next several days I asked the former students we heard from or ran into if they'd like to participate, and soon we had about twenty artists. This second show will open on Gallery Night, October 15, and will overlap for a while with the UWM show, which closes November 6.
Salon and spa operator Actaea Works Ltd. will close its longtime Shorewood location, and consolidate its operations in Bay View, owner Jason Wedesky said Wednesday.
Actaea plans to close the Shorewood operation, at 4001 N. Oakland Ave., after Thanksgiving weekend, Wedesky said. He said none of the company's 35 employees will be laid off, and the Bay View location, at 2173 S. Kinnickinnic Ave., will remain open.
Mequon's annual Trick-or-Treat will be held on October 31, 2010, from 4:00PM until 7:00PM.
I grew up in family with three other male siblings and we were encouraged to talk politics, economics and foreign affairs at dinner time. Now I know that two of us would be classified as liberals and two as conservative.
Sometimes discussions got pretty hot. The youngest of us were still developing and solidifying our views. We never held back nor did we have to be too diplomatic. Those early days were days of depression and talk of future war in Europe and and in the Pacific and the days of Father Coughlin, radio politician of the thirties.
I believe the Crown Fountain of Millennium Park was designed in 2003 and its construction completed in July of 2004. Chicagoans followed discussions of its design, its construction and its approved cost overruns as it was being designed for them and to be located there in their Park at that location.
