It seems that members of the School Board and Village Board of Shorewood were a bit confused and had no clear understanding of what our community development objectives for Shorewood were at their last joint meeting.
Members of these boards and especially those running for office next year should have got their act together by now in order to explain quite simply what our community intends to accomplish with all the land purchases, diggings, facades and expenditures along Oakland Avenue.
What's it all about? Do our officials know? Does it really have anything to do with increasing our school enrollment or with state aid for our school system? What's the connection? Shouldn't we get some clarity?
And what about the idea of encouraging elderly to move out of their homes and into condominiums? Is this a rational or socially accepted objective?
What's going into where the old Mobil station used to be? How many people in Shorewood know anything about this? Is this development economically feasible during these economic times? Are those financing the project reasonably sure it's going to work?
Who's subsidizing this development and for how much? And is this actually to become part of a shopping mall? Some people around there don't like it. Do most of the people living in this area know what's about to take place there? What does it do to home values?
Who's going to explain what is going on? Shouldn't this be public information?
How do citizens of Shorewood get answers to these questions? Mere silence ain't going to do it. Shouldn't this be reviewed publicly to reach as many people as possible? What about it, officials of Shorewood?
What .. what... what's going on?
