Bone marrow drive benefits Fox Point resident
Fox Point - A bone marrow drive is being planned for May 14 at St. Eugene Parish, 7600 N. Port Washington Road.
The effort, held in cooperation with the Blood Bank of Wisconsin and the National Bone Marrow Registry, will benefit Fox Point resident Anne Schumaker, who is in need of a bone marrow transplant.
Dentist to move to larger office
Glendale - Nathan Darling, owner of Darling Dental, will move to the Lemel building, 7161 N. Port Washington Road. Darling told the Plan Commission Tuesday that his practice has outgrown its existing space at 350 Green Tree Road. Joe Lemel, owner of the building, told the commission the new office space would be ready in about two weeks.
Nail Salon to open at former Stein Optical site
Glendale - Maria Tran will open Nails & Spa in the former Stein Optical site, 5530 N. Port Washington Road. Tran told the Plan Commission that she has worked in nail salons in Thiensville and Wauwatosa.
Her Glendale business will be open seven days a week, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
New body shop opening on Bender Road
Glendale - Drew Dubord and Nathan Bjurstrom got Plan Commission approval Tuesday for their business, Bender Body Repair, which will be located at 6115 N. Flint Road.
Dubord told the commission that the business does small-scale auto body repairs, such as repairing and painting a front or rear bumper. The company also services car dealers, providing touch-up paint applications and scratch removal.
During the winter months, the owners also do snow plowing from the site. Plow trucks will be stored behind the building.
Board discusses purchasing land next to old Village Hall
Thiensville - The Village Board is considering the purchase of an office building at 108 Main St., next to the former Village Hall. The site would be used for parking if purchased, Village Manager Dianne Robertson said.
"The parcel would provide dry land access for redevelopment of land to the north," she said.
Robertson said she did not know the asking price for the property. A Google search showed a listing with an asking price of $179,900 but the listing had been canceled.
Board to vote on renovations contract
Thiensville - The Village Board on May 16 will vote to approve a $21,500 contract with Architectural & Structural Engineering. The company will work on the plans for the proposed Municipal Center renovations, preparing information for bid documents. The village wants to know the cost of the renovations before committing to them.
Public meeting scheduled for county I-43 project
River Hills - The Wisconsin Department of Transportation Southeast Region will hold a public information meeting to discuss improvements to Interstate 43 from south of Silver Spring Drive to the north Milwaukee County line. The meeting is scheduled to take place from 5 to 7 p.m. May 18 in the cafeteria of Indian Hill Elementary School, 1101 W. Brown Deer Road.
The DOT will share current plans for resurfacing I-43 and answer questions and address concerns regarding the project. The project aims to improve safety and roadway conditions along this segment of the freeway.
The meeting is an open house format. The public is encouraged to attend the meeting and provide input regarding the project. Maps illustrating the existing roadway condition and proposed improvements will be on display for review and the project team will be available to provide information and answer questions
