It is time to educate others about bowel diseases
Public Forum:
I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis when I was 15. Initially, I tried to hide my bowel disease, but as I rapidly lost weight and eventually had three surgeries, others became aware of my affliction. However, I still did not take the next step of educating others about bowel diseases.
Last year I was inspired by another Shorewood resident with Crohn's disease. She told me about the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America and the work it does.
My husband and I are running a half-marathon to raise money for the CCFA. The $8,000 we raise will go toward medical research, patient support and summer camp for kids and teens afflicted with these diseases.
