CCBC AAU basketball tryout set

The CCBC AAU basketball tryout is from 4 to 6 p.m. April 16 at Center Court in Waukesha for boys ages 12 and 13.

Le Club takes part in Tennis Across America Day

This clinic, held on May 8, is open to all children between the ages of 4 to 14. The children will be divided by age group, in order to present different skill sets.

Ages 4-6 is from 3 to 4 p.m. (parents are welcome to participate with their children at this level); ages 7-10 from 4 to 5 p.m.; and ages 11-14 from 5 to 6 p.m.

Cardinal Stritch to host pitch, hit and run event

The Cardinal Stritch University Sports Management Club, along with the Cardinal Stritch Baseball team, will be hosting the free Aquafina Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit & Run Competition for area youth at 10 a.m. April 25.

This event, for boys and girls ages 7 to 14, will be held at Harden Field in Zablocki Park, located at 3719 West Howard Ave., Milwaukee. This grassroots program is designed to provide youngsters with an opportunity, free of charge, which allows them to showcase their pitching, hitting and running abilities.

Competitors are divided into four age divisions: 7/8, 9/10, 11/12, 13/14, and have the chance to advance through four levels of competition, including Team Championships at Major League ballparks and the national finals at the 2010 MLB All-Star Game.

The individual pitching, hitting and running champions, along with the all-around champion in each age group at the local competition will advance to the sectional level.

Radbil earns conference baseball honor

St. Cloud State University (Minnesota) senior third baseman Sam Radbil of Whitefish Bay was been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Baseball Player of the Week for games between March 29-April 4.

Radbil led the Huskies to three victories at Minnesota-Duluth on April 1-2. Radbil batted an impressive .667 in the four games at UMD, which included 12 RBIs, four runs and eight hits in 12 at bats during the doubleheaders up north.

Radbil also charted two grand slam home runs and four walks. On defense, he posted four assists from his position at third base. He also had five RBIs, three hits, one run and a grand slam home run in SCSU's 12-2 victory in the series opener on April 1. He also added another grand slam home run, two runs, three hits and five RBIs in the Huskies' 14-3 win over UMD on April 2.

To complete the trip to UMD, Radbil had two RBIs and a hit in SCSU's 8-4 win in the second game on April 2.

Radbil is now batting .310 this season with 26 hits, 24 runs, four doubles, three home runs and 31 RBIs. His efforts have helped SCSU post a 24-5 record in 2010, which includes a stellar 11-1 record in NSIC play this spring.

Barkhaus earns honor from Seattle University

With a team-leading performance in the 5,000 meter run at the Willamette Invitational as well as an exemplary winter quarter in the classroom, Seattle University sophomore Erik Barkhaus of Whitefish Bay was recently named the Featured Student-Athlete of the Week on GoSeattleU.com.

Competing in the top section of the 5,000 meter run, Barkhaus finished seventh in a time of 14:57.52, only about one second off his personal best. Earlier in the outdoor track season, Barkhaus broke his own school record in the 3,000 meter run, posting a time of 8:44.86 for a 10th place finish at the Oregon Preview.

At the Great West Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships in February, Barkhaus finished fifth in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 8:47.27. He also helped the cross country team finish second in the Great West Conference Cross Country Championships last October.

As a freshman, he set the school record in the 1,500 meter run at the Ken Shannon Invitational on May 8, 2009, with a time of 3:57.19

Barkhaus is majoring in international business, and his cumulative grade point average is 3.265.
