Musician/Composer Sigmund Snopek Performs With Festival City Symphony

Area musician and composer Sigmund Snopek will perform with Festival City Symphony at its upcoming free “Lets Meet the Composer” Pajama Jamboree concert on Wednesday, May 11, from 7-8 p.m. in the Bradley Pavilion at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts, 123 E. State St. entrance. The audience will be encouraged to participate during the concert.

 

Hosted by music educator Jayne Perkins, the orchestra will accompany Snopek in performing original works composed by him, including The Baby Symphony, Mobile Eyes, and Laketones Legends Landmarks, Seven Pieces for Orchestra: Glacial Meltdown, Sailing on Pewaukee Lake, Thousands of Fish, An Alphorn on Pine Lake, Lapham Peak, Upper and Lower Nemabin, and Seven Seas Sunset Waltz.

 

Snopek has four decades of professional expertise in most major American musical styles. His catalog features more than 300 original songs, ranging from top 40 through progressive rock to jazz. As a classical composer, he has written symphonies, operas, ensemble compositions and song cycles. Many of his major works have been showcased by such organizations as the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Theatre X, Irish Fest and Present Music. He has toured with the Violent Femmes, and been featured on recordings by other well-known artists including the Femmes and Tom Paxton.

 

He has also led diverse rock bands, including the Bloomsbury People and the popular band "Snopek," in addition to composing. A typical performance features Snopek playing flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, and various horns plus his signature vocal and keyboard solos.

 

For this concert, children are invited to come with their parents or grandparents in casual dress or pajamas, with blankets and teddy bears, and sit on the floor, up close where they can “meet” the orchestra.  Conventional seating is also available. No reservations are required.
