Seeking Families with Preschoolers for School-Readiness Program

July 10, 2012

As an affiliate of the national Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY) program, The Parenting Network invites families with three and four year olds to participate in a free, home-based early childhood education program. HIPPY is a parent involvement, school readiness program that helps parents prepare their children for success in school and beyond.

“This is an outstanding family-friendly program that helps parents teach important skills to their children,” said Jan Buchler, Executive Director of The Parenting Network. “HIPPY is fun for parents and children. Parents gain confidence in their skills and children enjoy the activities and enjoy learning.”

The HIPPY Program is a home-based, 30 week program designed to help parents and their preschoolers learn how to succeed academically. HIPPY works directly with parents and provides home visits, books, learning activities and a monthly family gathering night with educational entertainment.

“HIPPY helps parents and children play and learn together,” said Andrea Libber, HIPPY Coordinator at The Parenting Network. “Preschoolers enter kindergarten with a learning advantage that will last their lifetime.”

The Parenting Network is offering The HIPPY Program in partnership with COA Youth and Family Center which has provided the HIPPY Program for over a decade. This partnership has allowed HIPPY staff to reach out to a wider range of families throughout Milwaukee. Funding is provided by the Northwestern Mutual Foundation and through the United Way of Greater Milwaukee in cooperation with COA Youth & Family Centers.

The Parenting Network is currently enrolling participants to begin HIPPY in October. Parents who have child who will be three or four by September 1 should call today to learn more about this program. To register for the HIPPY Program, please contact Andrea Libber at 414/671-5575 or alibber@theparentingnetwork.org.
